Gotta have them backpressures.

I nstall some ball valves and you shut off some of the exhaust to reduce emissions.

Good to see they Teflon taped all the joints.

I’ll keep that in mind for next time. :D

Good, you  used the high-flow teflon tape!

As thoroughly idiotic as that sounds, before the bronze melted there would be *kind of* a rebound like active valve management. Kind of.

The best way to complement it would be to convert a pair of matching cylinders to be dead cylinders and convert all intake valves to automatic poppets, and not run the engine over 800 rpm. If that.

Why not install a quick connect/disconnect valve?

Kinja'd!!!

by the way... welcome back, you son of a bitch! Your shenanigans were missed.

Seals so well it only needs two bolts!

In all seriousness, one *can* make a manifold out of pipe. Cast steel pipe, appropriately sized, and seam welded. This, uh...

Oh I know, one can make a manifold out of all sorts of things.  It’s really just a matter of how long it’s going to hold up.  At least they didn’t go for PVC...

You should’ve added an electric supercharger while you’re in there

Lots of hit and miss engines only have a cammed valve for exhaust. The other is a port or passive valve that pops open under suction. (This enables them to run backwards, which is cool).  If the cylinder tries to reject exhaust to the manifold and can’t, it’ll pressurize the manifold up to the valve, and in future cycles it’ll be as if the valve is closed. The ideal “dead cylinder” engine just bounces on an inert charge forever, with closed valves. If, however, on the first attempt to move to that motion, it has unexpelled hot exhaust still present in the cylinder under pressure and the intake opens...

KABLOOIE, with or without gas in the intake.

Hence the need for an intake valve that won’t be coming open unless it experiences suction.

The trouble being, that opening a valve via suction is wasted energy and wasted charge. Like, a lot. Maybe 30%+. If you want high charge, you use a weak valve spring, but the valve spring is already so weak it will float like a mofo. Unless, for some insane reason, the engine is not an interference engine, it will never survive above *maybe* low hundreds of RPM before smacking a valve.

Bottom line, converting a Honda I4 into a hit-and-miss style valvetrain to enable turning it into a two-cylinder by choking the exhaust is a really, really dumb idea. I suspect you knew that.
